When Sarens’ CC6800 began its five-month operation at a chemical plant in Daqing Longyou / Daqing Heilongjiang, China, it was January of 2020: the lowest ambient temperature hovered at -30℃ and the COVID-19 outbreak was still in its early stages. It was an environment that challenged Sarens to implement low temperature protection measures to shield equipment, as well as health and safety precautions to shield workers, including three on-site crane operators.

“In January, we had to struggle with COVID-19. Personal PPEs, including face masks, were provided by SSJV and the client,” says project manager Xiaofei Zhang.

The CC6800 crane remained on site between January and June of 2020, where it performed work on the reactors and was frequently transferred to new lifting locations via SPMTs. The advantage of the CC6800 is that it can very easily be assembled and disassembled for SPMT relocation, making it an excellent choice for job sites where frequent relocation is required.

It took about 10 days to assemble the crane when it first reached the project site, where it was configured using SSL and SSL/LSL-S1 configuration. However, the outdoor environment, with its sub-zero temperatures, initially proved too cold for the crane to start. These challenging conditions required operators to adapt to the forces of nature while still maintaining steady progress.

Sarens would like to thank our client, the operators in charge of the CC6800 while it was on site, and of course everyone who has been a part of this project during this unprecedented time.
