Skanska’s Slovakian road
31 August 2016
Work is expected to start in November on the construction of a stretch of the D1 motorway between Budimir and Bidovce in eastern Slovakia, after the signing of an agreement between Slovakian National Motorway Company NDS and general contractor Skanska SK.
The total cost of the 15.46km long section is €197.44 million. The construction will be financed by the European Regional Development Fund through its integrated infrastructure operational programme 2014 to 2020, and the state budget.
The project is expected to last for 38 months.
The Budimír to Bidovce is a direct continuation of the highway from Presov to Kosice, towards Michalovce.
It will start with a newly built interchange at Budimir, continuing through the valley of the river Torysa.
On the new motorway section, there will be 23 bridges with different types of the structure and construction technology. The largest bridge over the Torysa will be 542m long. Other notable bridges are a 311m bridge over the river Olšava and three consecutive bridges with a length of 241m in a hilly climb in the second phase of the project.
