French demolition and recycling association SNED has created a software system that will help demolition contractors track and manage the waste that they generate during projects.

The online system (www.ivestigo.ft) enables companies to manage waste from the start of projects through to full disposal and recycling. It is designed to follow France’s detailed regulations regarding waste, making it easier for contractors to comply.

The software - which is currently available only to SNED’s 150 member companies and is free to use – automatically pre-fills mandatory forms and certificates using raw data input by the contractor. It creates up to day reports on waste processing for internal and external use, for example with clients and regulatory authorities.

SNED’s project manager, Coline Raillon, told D&Ri magazine that the system was already being used successfully by 25 of its members. Mr Raillon introduced the software at SNED’s demolition and recycling conference on the opening day of Intermat.

In addition to monitoring waste management progress, the software will save data on a demolition contractor’s suppliers and clients, making it very easy to fill in forms.

Ms Raillon said the software was a response to the complicated regulatory requirements for waste management in France.

The country creates around 20 million tonnes of construction waste every year, which is split for regulatory purposes into inert, non-hazardous and hazardous (including a separate sub-category for asbestos). There are distinct regulations for each category of waste.
