Spreader system gets a lift

A US rental company has placed the largest order yet for a Modulift modular spreader system.

Modulift Design and Consulting in the UK will supply two container loads of Modulift spreaders to Lifting Gear Hire Corporation.

The Modulift range offers 16 systems, providing lifting capacity for loads between 2,000 and 3,000 tonnes and in lengths from 200 mm to 53 m.

A single Modulift set can be adapted to each lift by connecting sections to make different size beams. This provides a cost effective way to use the same spreader for different loads, the company said.

Lifting Gear Hire USA general manager Tony Fiscelli commented, “The benefit of Modulift's flexibility sets the system apart from standard, fixed-length spreaders. Modulift provides a vast number of spreader beam configurations, suitable for all kinds of lifting projects.”

Part of the super-heavy range is the Modulift 400, which has a maximum span of 45 m and a capacity of 2,000 tonnes. It is used with large cranes. LGH recently supplied two Mod 400s for a record-breaking lift on the Elizabeth River in Virginia, US.

A 740 US ton Portal Whirler crane was transported 18 miles down the river using a Chesapeake 1,000 barge crane with the Mod 400s.

“With the introduction of Modulift we can provide our customers with more efficient and cost-effective solutions. Our latest order means we will have a total of 45 Modulift spreaders available,” Fiscelli added.
