United Rentals promotes Matt Flannery to COO

United Rentals has appointed Matt Flannery as the company's chief operating officer and executive vice president. He will lead the integration of RSC Equipment Rental following completion of the acquisition on 30 April.

Mr Flannery has been executive vice president of operations and sales at United Rentals for four years and has 20 years experience in the equipment rental business.

He spent seven years with McClinch Equipment Corp, which was acquired by United in 1998, and from then till 2008 held management positions with United at branch, district, regional and national levels, including senior vice president - operations.

Michael Kneeland, chief executive officer of United Rentals, said, "Matt understands every nuance of our business, as well as our customers and markets. Over the past four years, he has helped drive our strategy and guide our operations through the economic downturn.

"Most recently, he has been instrumental in preparing for our landmark combination with RSC, and will continue to play a key role in that transition. We are delighted to welcome him to his expanded role on our leadership team."
