VIDEO: The world's 200 largest construction contractors

08 September 2009

The 2009 edition of International Construction's ranking of the world's 200 largest construction companies once again shows the relentless climb up the rankings of China's contractors.

There are now four Chinese groups within the top 10, and all nine of the Chinese companies listed in the top 200 ranking improved their places this year.

When there are risers there also have to be fallers, and it is the developed world construction companies that are suffering. Although many of the larger European groups are holding their positions, there have been continued falls for construction companies in the US and Japan, who's construction markets went into recession earlier than other parts of the world.

With 42 companies listed, the US still has the most in the top 200. However, only 14 of these improved their positions over the year, while 28 fell backwards. Things were a little more balanced for the 32 Japanese companies, with 17 rising and 15 falling.

The full ranking of the world's top 200 contractors is published in the July-August edition of International Construction. If you would like to subscribe to the magazine, please visit the International Construction section of our website, khl.com
