Volvo Rents has continued its US expansion by acquiring Californian rental company Max Equipment Rentals. Max has two locations in California and one in Mexico, but IRN understand it is only the US locations that have been bought.

The acquisition of Max Equipment is the latest of more than 50 deals that Volvo Rents has made in the last 12 months, making it one of the fastest growing rental businesses in North America.

IRN understands that Bob McDaris, who co-founded Max Equipment in 2000 with Mason Bailey, will become Volvo Rents' Southwest Division sales manager. Mr Bailey will take on a consultancy role for a period.

Mike Crouch, Volvo Rents' vice president of business development, said the acquisition strengthened Volvo Rents' operation in California and would allow it to meet growing demand for construction equipment rental in the state.
