What the WDS did for us…

For Canadian contractor Budget Demolition, attending the World Demolition Summit was more than just a learning exercise – it reshaped an entire strategy.
The WDS in question was in Miami, USA in 2016, and after listening to speakers including Tim Barker of Aecom, ERM’s Mike Casbon and the then Sabre Demolition man Brian Hornyak, Budget went home and rethought its attitude to safety and training.
Two years on, those cultural changes are summarised in the company’s entry to the World Demolition Awards.
And in just over a month’s time it will go up against three other companies in the Safety and Training category.
“Attending the Miami 2016 World Demolition Summit was a turning point in our approach to safety,” says the company.
“Budget Demolition moved from having a safety programme to a safety-first culture.
“Since attending the WDS, we have taken our safety programme to the next level.”
Key steps taken Budget including a weekly operations team meeting, annual training and local safety programme, as well as investment in technology in areas such as documentation and equipment maintenance.
Other companies shortlisted in Safety and Training are Erith Contractors, Ferma Corporation and O’Keefe Demolition.
