Despite shifting timetables and the many unknowns associated with the emerging Covid-19 pandemic, Sarens was still able to safely and efficiently deliver a crucial footbridge project in Derby, UK, on behalf of client SH Structures and project owner Galliford Try.

Installing the footbridge required careful planning to responsibly manage health and safety risks, as well as to account for restricted transport access. Sarens necessarily grappled with changing project dates due to Covid-19, but a vast fleet of both large and small cranes in the region made it possible to smoothly coordinate project progression with the client, mobilising and completing the operation even on short notice, if necessary.

When the time came for the 192-tonne footbridge to be transported and lifted into place, Sarens was ready with a CC 2800-1 crawler crane in SSL 60m main boom configuration, as well as two LTM 1100 mobile cranes. Rigging the cranes took a total of two days.

“This project was originally planned for the end of March 2020,” says Simon Crawley, Senior Sales Manager, Special Projects. “However, due to lockdown the project got postponed. Sarens and SH Structures worked very hard on the health and safety of lifting team provided by SH Structures and rigging team provided by Sarens, and assessed the risks of the new Covid-19 environment to ensure the project could be carried out as safely and as early as possible, to avoid further disruptions to the A52 and surrounding areas of Derby”
