Potain towers on €200 million project in Geneva

Three Potain MD 560 B tower cranes are being used to build a €200 million project in Geneva, Switzerland.

The 25 tonne capacity cranes were mounted on 10 metre high portal bases to help build the office complex, allowing easy access for other equipment in the congested jobsite, a spokesperson said. The cranes were rented to main contractor Implenia by Swiss dealer Stirnimann.

Pascal Buffat, Stinimann regional head, said, “We are working in central Geneva near the United Nations, space is limited and the project has a demanding schedule. We needed a crane with a compact footprint that could handle demanding loads. We designed the portal base to ensure site traffic could flow freely, so the crane gives us optimal reach and capacity without an encumbering size.”

The MD 560 Bs have been configured at heights of 48, 68 and 88 m and are working eleven hours a day, six days a weeks, a company spokesperson said. Work includes lifting formwork and pre-cast concrete structures.

The 25,000 metre square development will accommodate 2,000 employees and a day-care centre. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2015.
