German energy firm to develop solar parks in France
13 November 2024
The French government has awarded German energy company Energiekontor a contract to build two solar parks in the Occitania region of southern France.
The parks will comprise ground-mounted photovoltaic systems, able to deliver a combined 41MW of peak generation capacity to the French grid once fully commissioned.
Energiekontor said building permits for both parks had been secured earlier this year and the contract with the French government will see it operate the parks – to be located in Rignac and Lachapelle-Auzac – for a 20-year term.
Energiekontor’s CEO, Peter Szabo, reported that the company anticipates achieving financial closure on both projects by the first quarter of 2025.
“We congratulate our French team on this success,” Szabo said. “These milestones validate our efforts in France’s challenging market and pave the way for our first financial closes in the country.”
