Aggreko partners with sailing league SailGP

Aggreko has agreed a three-year partnership with the international sailing league SailGP to deliver hybrid products such as solar power, battery storage and thermal generation. The league aims to become fully powered by clean energy by 2025.

Aggreko, which has committed to becoming Net Zero by 2050, will also support SailGP with its integration of green grid distribution and fuel alternatives such as Bio-Methanol and hydrogen.

SailGP’s events, which features Olympic teams racing high performance F50 catamarans, take place all over the world. The organisation offers a prize of US$1 million - the largest in the sport - and its events are viewed by a global audience of around 256 million people each year.

Robert Wells, Managing Director of Aggreko Events Services, said, “At Aggreko, we greatly admire SailGP’s commitment to sustainability, inclusivity and innovation – values that we proudly share.

“This partnership brings us one step closer to delivering sustainable sporting events globally, and we are excited that Aggreko continues to demonstrate reliable innovative energy solutions for world class events such as SailGP.”

The rental company described the new partnership as an “exciting platform for both partners to demonstrate their commitment to technical innovation and a cleaner, sustainable future”.

Fiona Morgan, Director of Purpose and Impact at SailGP, said, “We are extremely excited to work with Aggreko – a company that shares our belief that innovation and technology is critical to drive the sustainability agenda and transition to a cleaner future, powered by nature.

“We look forward to working together to test and innovate on solutions to reduce emissions across our global events and share a blueprint of clean events so others can learn and follow.”

A member of the UN Climate Neutral Now Initiative, SailGP has already achieved the Carbon Neutral International Standard and the international sustainability standard ISO20121.

Season 2 of SailGP, which includes the Bermuda Grand Prix and an opening event in Italy, is scheduled to start on 24 April, 2021.
